I'm currently unemployed and trying to decide if I want to go all in on freelancing and especially being my own boss, or trying to get another full time job. I obviously love the security of a stable income, but I also love the idea of being able to work for myself! Please help!! — Maybe Boss Lady

Congratulations on even considering this! This is a big step and it’s good that you are taking the time to weigh your options.
My first instinct would be go all in freelancing, however, you have to consider the current situation we find ourselves living in. The economy is not great, and many might be opting out of hiring freelance work. That being said, it is not impossible. You won’t know unless you try!

To quote Old El Paso Tortillas, “por que no los dos?” In other words, why not both? Mother Teresa makes this seem like the economy will have only negative effects on your job search or freelance business, but I choose to see this time as an opportunity (this very blog was built in the middle of this godforsaken pandemic/time of unemployment!) I would dedicate have of your time during the week or day to apply for jobs and spend the other half investing in your business and being your own boss. This will allow for you to try your hand at beefing up your freelancing portfolio and skills (networking, finessing your resume, etc.) while allowing yourself the opportunity to get hired in a new position (a stead income is a good thing.) See which bites first! Then you can make a more informed decision as to how you want to move forward in your career. #YasBoss
